The boys…the dogs and a van called Gary…

This is the post excerpt.

Gary…so named because his number plate is GSC my driving instructor Gary S Coopers initials…without whom I’d never have learnt to drive…and rather ironically hates VW with a passion….anyway Gary the van is a 1997 Volkswagen T4 with a 1.9 Diesel engine…and a hightop…we have great adventures planned for this little van..from surf trips in Cornwall to places further afield…come with us on Gary’s journey from TLC to who knows where …………

It’s all good fun…

I picked up Gary’s awning from the previous owner of the van…I was expected an old smelly thing ..judging by Gary’s cupboards…but was pleasantly surprised …it’s reasonably new and blue and grey…the colour is obviously extremly important! and in exceptionally good condition…just needed a bit of a wash…I was busy bundling bits of it up to stuff into the washing machine when my neighbour, Sandy suggested this may not be a good idea… Really..why!? In retrospect I must say I had to agree so pegged it on the line and proceeded to wash it down with a hose…image

Do tent manufacturers sit and laugh at us campers trying to squeeze tents back into bags that are clearly not large enough? I’ve taken one look at the enormous pile of awning and abandoned it in the corner of the room…after 3 days of avoiding it like the proverbial elephant in the room…I’ve decided today’s the day to tackle it…Noah wanted to give up immediately..no stamina teenagers these days…he suggested buying a new one…not a great plan every time we use it…after a lot of swearing and sweating and Noah rolling around on it …we finally managed to get it small enough to wedge into the bag…Noah held it while I trapped it ….It looked somewhat wonky and didn’t seem to be alot of room for the ground sheet and bedroom…more sweating and rolling and it was in…now the zip…phew…Noah kicked it around a bit to straighten things up and tah dah..easy…image

Parking wars….

Parking in Newquay is pretty horrendous on a good day but as summer drawers ever nearer and the town gets busier things get a whole lot worse…from the 1st of May parking on the double yellow lines is prohibited…I believe it’s a red letter day on a traffic wardens calender like Christmas Day or a birthday….you will see yellow tickets proudly placed on car windows accross the town where unsuspecting car owners have inadvertently forgotten it’s that special time of year again..I wonder if clintons make cards..congratulating you on how many tickets uve slapped on car windows on the 1st of May!Obviously this joyous annual event makes the already abismal lack of parking a million times worse resulting in parking wars…my street is notorious as it’s close to the town and the beaches you dare not move your vehicle during daylight hours…your safe before 8.30 am and after 5.30 pm for an hour anything inbetween is no go ..you walk..as July and August arrive you just don’t move EVER! Usually this causes me severe stress especially if the boys want a lift…don’t be ridiculous I can’t move the car until September..really is not as unreasonable as it might sound…but with Gary it’s a whole new game..I’m happy to sit on the double yellow lines in my van and wait…I’m pretty particular about my space I don’t like him to be leaning sideways and my reverse parking is ..well..dreadful..so unless a double decker can fit in it that’s out of the question! So I sit on my settee in my van and read or just sit or sweep or organise cupboards until a space becomes available..I’m almost disappointed when one does and I have to return to the house!image

Just for fun…and because we can…

The boys love to surf so if there is surf they are at the beach…Gary provides transportation of vast amounts of surfing paraphernalia a cosy place for me to sit (or clean!) and a kitchen to make snacks and meals…

I usually film the boys surfing or walk the dogs …but now I have a tiny kitchen I can take anywhere I cook to…we will often spend the evening at the beach and cook our tea ..trying out different meals and learning what kitchen equipment we are lacking…a sieve would have been handy for the first time we cooked pasta! One has since been purchased ..that’s folds flat marvellous invention,we also have a fold down washing up bowl amazing! It’s all about space..I’m enjoying  condensing and organising tiny cupboards with essentials for the adventures ahead…
